Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his position following a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the club's worst streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
The manager highlighted familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period like this with outcomes like these.”
He stated, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is removed, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to the top, prove again what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
